Cliffs of Moher/The Burren--Day 8

Today Alix and I went on a day tour of the Burren and of the Cliffs of Moher, it was a pretty long day. We left at about 930 and got back to Galway around 530pm, and after spending two days in Dublin before hand, I am completely wiped out.

We headed out of Galway and into Kinvara to Dunguaire Castle and stopped to take some pictures then headed out to the Burren. The burren is this beautiful landscape that is covered in limestone. It used to be completely submerged in water--like all of Ireland was at some point in the past. It is filled with an amazing variety of flora and fauna and it has beautiful coastlines and picturesque towns along the way. We stopped a couple places to take pictures, and then ended up in Doolin where we ate lunch at a pub named Fitzpatricks. I have to admit, I had a pint of Bulmers at noon, and I felt a bit like a lush.

After our lunch we headed out to the Cliffs of Moher. We were so incredibly lucky because the visibility was amazing. There were hardly any clouds in the sky, and the sun was shining...very unusual in the lovely land of Ireland. This was actually my second trip out to the cliffs, but the previous time they were covered in fog so I didn't actually get to see them. I'll post pictures, but to be completely honest there is just no way they do the amazing-ness of them justice. You just stand there over looking these massive cliffs and the 650 foot drop, and it is just breath taking. It is probably one of the most beautiful sights in the world.

After we left the cliffs we headed back out into the Burren and made a quick picture stop at Poulnabrone Dolmen (an ancient megalithic tomb) then it was on to Aliwee Cave. The cave wasn't all that impressive. I mean it was neat to go down into, but it really wasn't worth the 8 euro that it cost me to see it. We were there for about an hour, then it was time to head back to Galway.

It was a good day, we saw a lot, and I took oh...260 photos total. The landscapes and scenery were so beautiful that I couldn't resist snapping a picture every 10 minutes or so. I love being here and I never want to leave. Ever. I'm so lucky that I am able to be here for so long, and I am enjoying every minute of it.

It all looks so beautiful and green, but I would like to see more pictures with you in them. You're on vacation have a pint at noon every day. You know what they say, it's five o'clock somewhere.....
