Day 18

July 10

Today was a good day. We didn't have class until 11:30, so we FINALLY had a day to sleep in. It was SO NICE!!! Usually we have class at 9am...which is REALLY early when you have to walk 30 minutes to get to school. So we had history at 11:30, and it was another good class--as usual. Then me, Sarah, Michelle, Katie, and Kelsey went into town and ate lunch at Couch Potata, it is seriously one of the best places to eat around here. I get the Pavoratii which is a baked potato covered in meat sauce and cheeseeeeeeeeee, and it is cheap too!

Then after lunch Kelsey went back to school, Katie and I went to one of the touristy shops and Michelle and Sarah went to this other place. We finally all ended back at home, and had some time to kill before we had to walk back to school to leave on our field trip. This was our last archeology field trip and we went to Cahercammaun, and Corcomroe Abbey.

The first stop was cool because once we got to the top (a long walk up a hill, that our professor said was an easy, lined path to walk...uh huh, never believe them!), you could see the whole valley. Cahercammaun is a stone fort, similar to the one on the Aran Islands, only on a smaller scale. Our teacher talked about it, but to be quite honest all I remember him saying was that Brian Boru was around, and it was built on the edge of the cliff because his forces were pushing the people who lived there forward. Oh yes, and at this top my room mate Sarah peed behind a bush....great times!

Then it was on to Corcomroe Abbey...this site was awesome. The Abbey is pretty well preserved, and was really neat to go into. You could gaze up at the clouds from inside and it was really pretty. There was a current graveyard outside in the courtyard, but there were older graves inside the abbey. This was an especially nice site because we got to park and it was right there! :) Then on our way out a bunch of people showed up, and apparently they still have mass there. How crazy would that be to have mass in a ruin?

Then we got dropped off at home, and ate our leftovers from lunch and watched Billy Madison and then went up to bed...it was a long day.

So tomorrow is my Dingle weekend...so I won't have another post up till Sunday night. Have a good weekend everyone!
