Day 5

Sorry for the lack of update last night...by the time I got home and all my pictures uploaded I was beat and had to go to bed.

Yesterday was by far the best day yet. It didn't start out too great...walking to school and getting soaked and having to sit in a classroom for an hour and a half while you are wet and freezing was not at all enjoyable. My Irish history class is friggen amazing, I love the teacher, and I can't wait for our next class, I'm going to learn a LOT. On the other hand, my archeology class is semi-boring, at least so far. I decided to just audit each class because that way I can sit and enjoy and learn, but not have to go through the hassle of taking a test or writing a paper for either class. The credits, if I got them, would be pointless, so taking the tests would be pointless as well. Then by doing so I have more free time to go explore and enjoy myself without having to worry about passing a class!!

So after class we went to Aldi to get some stuff for the house, then we came home and sat around doing pretty much nothing. We made pasta for dinner and watched some Irish soap opera, and that was fun, but then it started to clear up outside and I wanted to go out and do something because I feel guilty when I'm sitting here doing nothing. So later on our other roomie comes down and says she is going to town with another girl, so me and my roomates decide to go with them. It was nice, I found out we had been taking the long way to town, so now I know it is much closer. We got some ice cream at Supermacs, and then three of the girls left and me and my room mate Katie went and found a pub with some traditional Irish music.

Last night was seriously what I came for. The music, the people, the atmosphere, it was all perfect. It was exactly what you think of when you think of ireland. There were three old men playing the music and they were funny and lively, and the pub was jam packed full of people who were singing along with every song--I even knew a few of them to sing along to :) It was just so perfect, and it is what I had been wanting to do since I got here. I took some videos of the music, but I'm not sure how to get them out to you people...I might try and post them on youtube, because they are too big to post on here, I think. There are pictures I can post though.

We left when they finished at 11:30 and Shop street was still FULL of life, it was great!! People wandering around, troubadours playing music along the road---wonderful. There was this one guy that we had passed a couple times while we were out and about so when we left the pub I was tipsy enough to try and take a picture of him, but he saw me and was like "I charge by the picture you know!" He was just being funny but I went over and started talking to him and he ended up playing one of my FAVORITE songs for us, and I got it on video...it was great, I'll have to post that one as well.

After my wonderful night last night I have one class this morning, and then it is off to Dublin for two days!!! I am SO excited to be able to go and see TOMMY TIERNAN live!!!! It is going to be amazing. So there wont be a post until I get back on Saturday...but I'm sure ill come back with tons of pictures!

The two main singers of the night

The name of the pub, Taffes, and Gaillimh is how you write Galway in Gaelic.

A picture of how packed the pub was
The singer and the cute little old man who played the accordian!
Look at me, I took a picture with a stranger!!! He was the singer I mentioned in the post above. He actually had a really good voice.
